What could be better with a honey butter flaky biscuits, 1 pound spicy sausage and some other ingredients? These Stuffed Biscuits and Gravy might look extra impressive but they’re surprisingly easy to make when you follow this recipe.
Saturday mornings are one of my fondest childhood memories. I remember running around the house while my mom made breakfast and we listened to the radio. We loved listening to 70’s Saturday, they played all the throwback hits from the time when my mom was growing up. Even to this day if I hear some of those old songs, I’m instantly taken back to those warm summer mornings as a child and the smell of delicious biscuits and gravy.
Biscuits and gravy isn’t something I ate often as I got older but I’ve always thought of it as one of the favorite items of my husband. It’s a dish you want to taste a certain way-flaky buttery biscuit and spicy gravy made with extra love.
My husband is from Minnesota and when we first met, he hadn’t heard the hype around biscuits and gravy here in Missouri. Luckily, I had another southern Missouri friend there to back me up on it’s importance. To my surprise, it was his idea to make stuffed biscuits and gravy. It’s not something I ever thought to make before but of course, it was a fantastic idea! What I love about stuffed biscuits and gravy is they fit the pace of your morning. They can be good on those slow weekend mornings or eaten on the go. The gravy is a bit thicker than normal so you can eat these without worrying about getting too messy.
I used canned dough but homemade would work too. Store bought dough is just easier for me to work with. We used an extra flaky kind which made it easy to split the layers of each biscuit into two to make room for the gravy. The gravy took about 15 minutes to make and could easily be made the night before. It makes it a lot easier to work with chilled sausage gravy so it’s even less runny. A quick way to do this is cover a baking sheet with parchment paper, spread the gravy over it and chill for a few minutes in the freezer. The stuffed biscuits and gravy baked in about 12-15 minutes and then all I added was a melted butter and honey glaze and they were ready to serve. I thought the sweetness of the honey really complimented the spicy sausage gravy.
These stuffed biscuits and gravy are a fun twist on a classic. They’re easy to make and perfect whether you’re sipping your morning coffee prepping for the day or rushing out the door for errands. Sweet and spicy on-the-go comfort food the whole family will love.
Honey butter glazed biscuits stuffed with spicy sausage gravy
- 1 pound spicy sausage (I used Jimmy Dean)
- 1-2 cans honey butter flaky biscuits
- 2.5 cups milk
- cup flour
- 2 tsp pepper
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp honey

- Preheat oven to 400 degrees
- Over medium heat brown sausage in pan, do not drain
- Slowly sprinkle flour on sausage in pan in small batches, mixing as you go
- Pour milk into pan with pepper and salt
- Continuously stir until sausage gravy thickens
- On a parchment lined cookie sheet, spread gravy in thin layer and cool in freezer for 5 minutes
- Remove biscuit dough from can and split each biscuit in half, place on parchment lined sheet
- Roll 1-2 tbsp chilled gravy into ball and place in center of halved biscuit
- Cover with other half of biscuit, pinching edges gently and carefully form into ball
- Brush each ball with egg wash
- Bake stuffed biscuit and gravy for 8-10 minutes until golden brown
- Melt stick of butter and combine with honey and brush over biscuits
